# Troubleshooting Guide

This page describes typical problems encountered while using the app with a drone and helps you understand the cause and how to remedy the situation.

## General Troubleshooting Steps

If you have issues with the app or drone, follow these steps first.

### No Fly Zone

Check if your drone is in or near a [No Fly Zone](/home/fieldagent-mobile-ios/faqs.md#unlock-no-fly-zones-for-dji-products).

If you are on the edge of an NFZ, the drone can stop mid-mission to prevent it from entering restricted airspace.

### App Was Backgrounded

Keep the app in the [foreground](/home/fieldagent-mobile-ios/faqs.md#the-app-must-be-in-the-foreground-why) while operating the drone.

### DJI GO 4&#x20;

Force quit [DJI GO 4.](/home/fieldagent-mobile-ios/faqs.md#can-i-keep-dji-go-4-running)&#x20;

### Apple Mobile Device

Reboot your device. Mobile devices that connect to DJI Remote Controllers can become unstable over time, and rebooting often fixes these issues.

* [iPhone](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118259) and [iPad](https://support.apple.com/en-us/101603) have different procedures for rebooting.
* Rebooting can fix an issue where you cannot send support emails from the app.
* Reboot your mobile device every morning as part of your daily routine.

Out-of-date system software can cause many types of issues.&#x20;

* Check for any [software updates](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118575) and install them.&#x20;
* Always keep [FieldAgent Mobile](/home/fieldagent-mobile-ios/fieldagent-mobile-ios.md) up-to-date.

Check your Lightning or USB-C port for debris or unexpected wear.&#x20;

* Your port can wear out over time due to too many cable insertions. If you detect excessive wear and tear, have your mobile device [serviced](https://support.apple.com/repair).
* Follow Apple's suggestions for cleaning [here](https://support.apple.com/en-gw/103258).&#x20;
* **Do not attempt to clean the port yourself.**

Inspect your cables.

* Damaged cables should be replaced.
* Non-Apple cables often fail to work correctly with the Drone's RC and your mobile device.

### DJI Drone

Check that you have the latest firmware.

* Review DJI's website for the [latest firmware](https://www.dji.com/downloads).

RTK mode is not supported by FieldAgent mobile.

* Matrice Series drones must have [RTK mode](/home/fieldagent-mobile-ios/requirements/dji-drones.md#rtk-support) disabled.
* The app cannot upload or execute autonomous missions when RTK is enabled.

Perform drone maintenance and calibration on a schedule.

* Perform any missed maintenance procedures before continuing to use the drone.
* Check to see if your drone needs calibration.

  * [Aircraft Vision System](https://repair.dji.com/help/content?customId=en-us03400006473\&spaceId=34\&re=US\&lang=en\&documentType=artical\&paperDocType=paper)

Inspect your drone for any damage to the aircraft or the [batteries](https://forum.dji.com/thread-279700-1-1.html).

* Have your drone [serviced](https://www.dji.com/support/repair) if necessary.
* If your batteries are damaged, then do not fly with them.

Always deploy your drone in a good takeoff area.&#x20;

* Taking off too close to an object, such as a picnic table or car, can cause issues with the Vision System.
* You should never attempt to take off near metal or on rebar-reinforced concrete.

Always maintain Line of Sight (LoS) with your remote controller (RC) and the drone.

* Crops are an attenuator. Obstructing the LoS of the RC and drone can cause communications to become unstable and fail.
* Human bodies are also massive attenuators. Do not put your body between the drone's and the RC's line of sight.&#x20;

### Drone Firmware

Some versions of DJI's firmware have bugs that cause the drone to pause while taking off or flying a mission. Check to see if you have the [latest firmware](https://www.dji.com/downloads).

### Obstacle Avoidance

The obstacle avoidance system can be triggered during take-off or a flight for unexpected reasons.&#x20;

* Ensure you are on flat ground away from objects like a picnic table or car.
* Cleaning your drone as part of a maintenance schedule is essential for its health and safety. This will keep the sensors free of debris that can cause them to become confused.

### Remote Controller Flight Mode

Drones with [Support for Mission Execution](/home/fieldagent-mobile-ios/requirements/dji-drones.md#support-for-mission-execution) must have their RC set to the correct Flight Mode.
